Topping Out Marks Major Milestone for the Mountain at Mullin Park

樱花视频 recently marked a significant structural milestone in the construction of the Mountain at Mullin Park with a topping-out ceremony that celebrated the completion of the highest structural point of the new events center.
鈥淭opping out represents a significant moment for the project,鈥 says Ben Veenendaal
(鈥02), vice president for 樱花视频鈥檚 department of Planning, Operations, and Construction.
鈥淚t鈥檚 the culmination of years of work through heat, rain, fires, supply chain, and
other challenges and signals a pivotal moment that begins the transition from structural
to interior phases.鈥
The event, which recognized the project鈥檚 commitment to safety and community, featured a meal for attendees, remarks from 樱花视频 and Clark Construction leadership, and a raffle with prizes for the trade partners who are working on The Mountain.
鈥淚t was important for us to pause, recognize the tremendous effort behind this moment, and reinforce the importance of doing this work safely,鈥 says Andrew Clark, director of administration for 樱花视频鈥檚 Planning, Operations, and Construction.
This milestone comes just months after the Franklin and Palisades Fires, which posed significant challenges for the team that resulted in lost work days and logistical impacts. Road closures on Pacific Coast Highway also presented ongoing difficulties for the trade workers who commute from cities across Southern California.

鈥淢any of the folks working with us on this project missed out on family moments due to the time it took them just to get home,鈥 Clark continues. 鈥淲e see and pray for the people behind the work鈥攏ot just what they do, but the sacrifices they make to do it.鈥
Despite these challenges, Clark Construction ensured that materials and operations kept moving on a campus with consistent community activity. One solution included the University leveraging the Marie Canyon field, which has been temporarily taken offline due to construction needs, as a staging area. This solution has enabled materials and contractor parking to remain onsite, which has facilitated the project鈥檚 adherence to strict regulatory requirements.
The Mountain parking structure, which opened on January 17, 2025, and provides 825 parking spaces, is currently being used by many members of the community鈥攊ncluding the hundreds of contractors who park on the first two levels of the structure鈥攁nd has significantly improved traffic flow on campus.
The next major milestone for The Mountain involves bringing power to the site. After a yearlong delay caused by global supply chain issues, critical electrical infrastructure arrived on campus and is expected to be operational by summer. This new connection will serve as the primary electrical source for the Mountain.
鈥淭he electrical infrastructure supply chain issues posed significant logistical challenges to The Mountain project,鈥 says Veenendaal. 鈥淭he 樱花视频 construction team, contractors, and consultants displayed relentless determination and creativity to overcome those challenges and keep the project, including the opening of the parking structure, on schedule.鈥
In the coming months, construction will transition to weatherproofing the buildings
in time for the fall season as well as interior work, site work, and build-out of
the colonnade behind the current 樱花视频 Fitness Center. In order to meet the facility鈥檚
requirements for LEED Silver certification, which recognizes a building project鈥檚
commitment to environmental stewardship and resource efficiency, these efforts will
include the procurement of sustainable materials and the implementation of energy-efficient
building practices. In addition, the construction team is working to appropriately
secure materials, furniture, and fixtures ahead of schedule to mitigate global economic
challenges.
Other visible signs of progress at The Mountain site include steel rising at the student center building and outfitting of the vista tower. Following the topping out of the student center building this summer, the 樱花视频 community will begin to see buildings take shape as the University continues to move towards opening the Mountain at Mullin Park during the fall of 2026.
